Baby in Nature

The hardest thing about eco-parenting is… knowing where to start! With so many products on the market claiming to be free of this and 100% that, it can be difficult to know which to choose. So, to make it a little easier, this week I have compiled a list of some of my favourite eco-friendly baby products to help you out.

1)      Baby Wash and Shampoo – Green People Organic Babies Baby Wash and Shampoo, scent-free

This gentle body wash and shampoo is perfect for babies’ sensitive skin and prevents dryness and irritation. The pure, natural formula uses 83% organic ingredients, including Aloe Vera, Yucca, and Camomile. It is also totally scent-free, which I love.

2)      Body Lotion – Earth Friendly Baby Calming Lavender Body Lotion

Earth Friendly Baby is one of my favourite brands for eco-friendly baby supplies. Made in the UK without animal testing, this Ecocert Greenlife certified brand uses almost entirely natural, organic ingredients, and absolutely no nasty chemicals or artificial fragrances. This calming body lotion is soft and mild enough to be used every day and the lavender provides a great natural antiseptic.

3)      Nappies

a.       Beaming Baby Washable Nappies

If you want to try out washable cloth nappies, but are not sure whether they are for you – I would recommend giving Beaming Baby a go. Not only are their nappies soft, long-wearing, and easy to use, but they also offer a free trial pack so you can see whether they work for you first.

b.       Beaming Baby Eco-Disposable Nappies

That said, when you are out and about, sometimes a disposable nappy just makes life a bit easier. Thankfully, Beaming Baby make these too! Their Bio-Degradable nappies contain 54% less chemicals than standard nappies and can help reduce your baby’s risk of nappy rash, eczema, and sensitive skin.

c.       Bambo Biodegradable Disposable Nappies

I also love Danish brand Bambo’s biodegradable disposable nappies. Ranging from newborn size all the way through to Junior, these nappies are free from all artificial perfumes, perfect for sensitive skin. Bambo holds the Nordic Swan eco-level and sources its materials via the Scandinavian Forestry, which means for every tree they use, more are planted.

4)      Baby Wipes – Naty Unscented Baby Wipes

When it comes to a product you use as often as baby wipes, you want to make sure you get it right which is why I use the Unscented Sensitive wipes from Naty. Ideal for sensitive skin, these wipes are perfume and chlorine free. They are totally biodegradable and made from 100% beech wood pulp from trees grown in sustainable, eco-managed forests, which led to them winning the “Good Environmental Choice” award by the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation.

5)      Nappy cream – Weleda Calendula Nappy Cream

Weleda have been making their wonderful calendula nappy cream for nearly 30 years now, and I’m yet to find a product I like as much. Calendula is another name for Marigold, and Weleda uses only organic flowers for their natural anti-inflammatory properties. Mixed with other natural ingredients like camomile and sweet almond, this cream reduces redness and soothes.

6)      Toothpaste – Green People Organic Children Toothpaste

Even before getting your kids to brush their teeth becomes a chore, daily dental care can be a challenge. That’s why I love this gentle, natural toothpaste from Green People. It comes in spearmint or mandarin flavour – which the littlies will love! – and is free from all Fluoride, Triclosan, and SLS, so it’s safe to swallow. It is so gentle it can even be used on babies’ gums before their teeth arrive.

7)      Sun-cream – Green People Organic Children Sun Lotion, SPF 30

Being outside with baby in the summer is the best, and this lovely Organic Children sun-cream from Green People means you can do that worry-free. It has SPF30 and offers 97% UVB protection, plus it is water-repellent, kind to sensitive skin, and totally scent-free. Made from 78% organic ingredients, it uses no parabens and no alcohol. Plus, for every bottle bought, Green People donate 30p to the Marine Conservation Society, so you can care for baby and the environment at the same time.
